No, Tourist eVisa holders are not allowed to work, study or stay long-term in Egypt. You can, however, have business meetings or visit family members.
What to do if your visa expires?
You should always leave the country before your visa expires to avoid issues at the border. If you try to leave with a visa expired for more than 14 days, it is very likely you will be fined.
If you wish to stay longer than your eVisa allows you to, you may apply for an extension.
Can you extend your stay with the eVisa?
Yes, it is possible to apply for a 90-day extension at the General Administration of Passports Immigration and Nationality Department in Cairo.
Can the Egypt eVisa be changed once it has been processed?
No, you cannot change the details of your visa after it has been processed. If you need to make any changes, you will need to apply for a new eVisa.
Do I need a transit visa to stop in Egypt?
It depends on how long you are in transit for:
  • If it is for 48 hours or less: you do not need a visa.
  • If it is for less than 6 hours: you do not need a visa and you can leave the transit area. However, you must stay inside the airport.
    • Exception: citizen of Afghanistan, Lebanon, Palestine and Philippines. Passport holders of these countries must stay within the transit area.
  • If it is for 6-48 hours: you do not need a visa, and you can leave the transit area as well as the airport. Just carry with you proof of onward travel and your passport.
  • If you are in transit for more than 48 hours, then you need the appropriate visa.

There is an exception to this rule: Irani citizens must always have a transit visa, no matter how long they stay in transit.
