What is the ETA for Sri Lanka?

The ETA is an electronic document that visitors to Sri Lanka can obtain before their arrival in the country. You will have to present that document along with your passport to be granted the correspondent clearance into the country.

With the ETA, you can stay in Sri Lanka for a maximum of 30 days, and you have the option of doing two entries as long as each one does not exceed those 30 days. You can obtain it 100% online in a simple process that will not take more than a few minutes.

Purpose of visit: the purpose of your visit is tourism, transit or business.
Duration of each trip: you cannot stay longer than 30 days.
Travel documentation: you must hold a passport with a validity of at least 6 months.

How long can you stay in Sri Lanka with an ETA?

With an ETA, you can stay in Sri Lanka for a maximum of 30 days. You are allowed two entries within the 30-day validity period, but the total duration of both stays combined must not exceed 30 days.

The cost of the ETA to Sri Lanka will fall within these ranges:

The final price will depend on the age and nationality of the applicant, and the type of processing you choose.

No, the ETA does not allow work in the country. In that case, you would have to apply for a visa specific for working purposes.

What to do if your ETA expires?

If your ETA expires, you may face fees and penalties for overstaying. It is crucial that if you know you will need to stay for more days, you apply for an extension before it expires. You can apply through the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Sri Lanka.
However, keep in mind that the authorities provide a 7-day grace period from the date it expires. During this time, you can depart the country by paying a fee without paying additional penalties.
