What is the South Korea K-ETA?

The Korea Electronic Travel Authorization or K-ETA is the document that allows citizens of visa-exempt countries to visit South Korea for a specific period of time.

K-ETA holders can travel to South Korea for up to 180 days within its 3 years of validity. It allows for multiple entries, so you can travel as many times as you want as long as you stay for 180 days or less.

How the K-ETA differs from regular visas

Your passport is valid for the duration of your stay.

Can you work on a K-ETA?

No, it is not allowed to perform activities for profit under a K-ETA, including working. The only travel purposes contemplated are tourism, to visit friends or family, medical treatments, conferences, events and competitions.

What to do if your K-ETA expires?

If you are still within the allowed length of stay, you can keep on with your travel plans without issues, even if the K-ETA has expired.
However, if you stay longer than you are allowed to (for example, 90 days), then you are overstaying and you could face serious consequences. If you are found to be overstaying in South Korea, you might be fined, deported and even banned from returning to the country.

Can you extend your stay with a K-ETA?

No, it is not possible to extend a K-ETA.

Can the K-ETA be changed once it has been processed?

No, it is not possible to change the details of your K-ETA. If you need to change some information, you will need to re-apply, even if your previous K-ETA is still valid.
