Japan is launching a visa for digital nomads in March

If your job allows you to work from anywhere, soon you will be able to do it from Japan. Dreams of spending your nights wandering the streets of Tokyo or Kyoto after a hard day’s work will be able to come true in a few months.

Japan will launch a six-month visa for digital nomads in March, which will extend to spouses and children of the visa holder. 

To apply, your annual income must be equal to at least ¥10 million. In other currencies this is:

  • 67.000 USD
  • 62.120 EUR
  • 53.005 GBP
  • 90.116 CAD
  • 102.925 AUD

On top of that, applicants will be required to have private health insurance. You should know that this visa will not be enough to be granted a residency card for Japan.

Citizens of 49 countries and territories will be eligible for the Japan digital nomad visa, including:

  • All EU member countries
  • The US
  • The UK
  • Australia
  • Singapore
  • Armenia 
  • Belarus
  • Georgia
  • Iceland
  • Liechtenstein
  • Moldova
  • Monaco
  • North Macedonia
  • Norway
  • Serbia
  • Switzerland
  • Turkey
  • South Korea

Can you renew the Japan digital nomad visa?

Yes, but not immediately. You can only renew your visa six months after leaving Japan.
